In 2019, the Belgian-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce decided to organise a yearly event entitled ‘Belgian-Portuguese Routes for the Blue Economy’, aiming at bringing together Belgian and Portuguese players active in the Blue Economy. The first edition had a focus on offshore wind energy production, the second, on biodiversity, and the third, organised in June 2021, focused on smart infrastructure, digitization, and monitoring of the marine and ocean environment.
Following feedback and suggestions received from participants in these events, the Belgian-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce is now promoting the organisation of an economic mission to the Municipality of Viana do Castelo in Portugal, where the pioneer WindFloat Atlantic project was installed.
The main goal of this mission is to promote Viana do Castelo and Portugal as a destination for investment in the Blue Economy realm, allowing Belgian enterprises and institutions to meet partners and create networks in Portugal. The mission is also a unique opportunity for Belgian market players to visit one of the largest floating offshore wind turbines in the world. The organisation of the event is also in line with the identification of the Maritime Economy as a key prominent cluster in Portugal by aicep Portugal Global Trade & Investment Agency.
